His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader of his people, but he has become so much more than that. He has become the spiritual leader of all men and women and is a great source of inspiration for everybody, regardless of religion, nationality or race.

His wise words have changed peoples lives for the better and it is hard to not love somebody who is so focused on humanity and making the world a better place. Following are 10 quotes for the Dalai Lama that will change your life.

10. Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.

With all the things you think you need, it seems that love and compassion are low on the list. In fact, all of the objects you surround yourself with are not at all required for survival. The luxuries of life are not necessary for survival of yourself or humanity as a whole. Look within and find the love and compassion for yourself and others to allow for the survival of humanity.

9. My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.

With all of the debates and wars waged over religion, remember that behind all of them, is the idea of kindness. While nearly every religion in the world seems to be so different and opposites of each other, in reality they all teach the same basic truth, kindness toward others. His Holiness is a religious figure, but regardless of his beliefs, he believes in one thing above all, kindness.

8. A lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity.

Something many corporations and governments can learn about transparency. It is never a good thing to hide something from someone, as it only breeds distrust in the person hiding it. It makes people worried and feel insecure about the situation and can only do harm. By having transparency there will be trust and faith.

7. Our prime purpose in life is to help others.

Collective Evolution

A simple answer to what the meaning of life is. It is not about wealth or power or reaching a higher level of being, but simply to help others. By helping other you are focusing on the humanity in others, while reaching a better understanding of yourself. Number one goal in life should be for others first.

6. In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.

Unless you know where you are going, you will never get there. It is more important to know why you are heading in a positive direction than the actions to get there. You must first understand the vision of the purpose before you can carry out the positive action.

In our busy days, we don’t always have time to meditate on life, but many times, all we need to do is get more sleep. We cut ourselves short in order to get more done throughout the day, but this is a disservice to our spirit. Rather than forcing yourself to make time to meditate or stressing about things, just get more sleep first.

4. Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

Too many times we seek happiness by things around us. We hope to get a better job, a better car or for others to give us something, when in fact, happiness is found within. It is not something you can pick up of a shelf, but rather something you must find for yourself. It is found by the actions you do every day to be a better person.

3. With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.

Rather than searching for ways to improve others, the best way to help the world is to improve yourself. This begins with an understanding of just how powerful you are and how every little action you take can improve the world. By taking time to find yourself and your abilities, you can affect change in others.

2. Physical comforts cannot subdue mental suffering, and if we look closely, we can see that those who have many possessions are not necessarily happy. In fact, being wealthy often brings even more anxiety.

Wealth and objects are not the answer to happiness, as it comes from within. While everybody seems to be looking for that next item that will bring them happiness, what you will often find is it make things worse. The objects we surround ourselves with tend to bring more anxiety than happiness.

1. Out of 6 billion humans, the troublemakers are just a handful.

With all the news stories, anecdotes and sensationalism, you might think the world is a horrible place, when in reality the majority of people in this world are good people. There are over 6 billion humans in the world, and while we hear about the bad ones a handful of them at a time, it is such a small portion of all people, and is not an accurate representation of humanity.
